The Banyan Tree, scientifically known as Ficus benghalensis, is a majestic and iconic tree that holds cultural and spiritual significance in many parts of the world. It is the national tree of India. With its expansive canopy, aerial roots, and impressive stature, the Banyan Tree commands attention and admiration wherever it grows. Deep green, fuzzy leaves are sure to bring lush jungle vibes into your home. As a symbol of strength, longevity, and interconnectedness with nature, the Banyan Tree makes a profound statement in any landscape or indoor space.

Plant Care Needs

• ☀: Thrives in full sun to partial shade. Place the Banyan Tree where it receives at least 6-8 hours of sunlight per day.

• 💦: Water deeply and thoroughly, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot.

• 🪨: Well-draining soil is essential. Use a rich, loamy soil with good drainage to support the Banyan Tree’s extensive root system. We recommend our Luxuriously Moist soil blend, or a combination of The Mix & cHuNkY mOnKeY!

• 🌡️: Prefers warm temperatures between 65°F to 85°F (18°C to 29°C). Protect from frost and freezing temperatures.

• ☁: Adaptable to various humidity levels but benefits from occasional misting, especially in dry indoor environments.

• ✂: Can be propagated from aerial roots or stem cuttings. Take a cutting with at least one node and place it in moist soil or water until roots develop.

• ⚖: Moderate to high maintenance. Suitable for experienced gardeners or those willing to invest time and effort into its care.

• 💭:

  • Prune regularly to maintain the tree’s shape and to remove dead or diseased branches.
  • Provide adequate support for the aerial roots to prevent damage and promote healthy growth.
  • Fertilize during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer to support the Banyan Tree’s vigorous growth.
  • Keep it vibrant and healthy in a container or outdoors just make sure to rotate it regularly for bold & even leaf growth.
  • Consider the tree’s potential size and root spread before planting it, as it can grow to immense proportions over time.
  • In some cultures, the Banyan Tree is considered sacred or auspicious, so research its cultural significance if planning to incorporate it into ceremonial or religious practices.
