Plant Care Needs
• ☀️: Requires full sun exposure to thrive. Place in a location where it receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day.
• 💦: Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water deeply but infrequently, approximately every 2-3 weeks during the growing season, and reduce frequency in winter.
• 🪨: Well-draining soil is essential for preventing root rot. Use a sandy or gravelly cactus mix amended with perlite or pumice for optimal drainage. We recommend our Tits & Grit Cacti & Succulent Soil Blend!
• 🌡️: Prefers warm temperatures between 70°F to 90°F (21°C to 32°C). Protect from frost and freezing temperatures.
• ☁: Thrives in low humidity environments typical of desert climates. Avoid overly humid conditions to prevent fungal issues.
• ✂: Can be propagated from stem cuttings or by collecting and planting seeds. Take care when handling stem segments due to the sharp spines.
• ⚖: Low maintenance once established. Suitable for experienced gardeners familiar with desert plant care.
• 💭:
- Handle with care to avoid contact with the sharp spines, which can cause irritation or injury.
- Avoid overhead watering to prevent water from settling in the joints and causing rot.
- Fertilize sparingly with a balanced cactus fertilizer diluted to half strength during the growing season. Avoid fertilizing in winter.
- Prune dead or decaying segments as needed to maintain the plant’s shape and health.
- Keep an eye out for signs of pests such as scale insects or mealybugs, and treat promptly if detected.
- Cholla Cactus may produce vibrant blooms in spring or summer, adding an extra dimension of beauty to its already striking appearance.
