Monstera deliciosa | Swiss Cheese Plant
Monstera deliciosa, also known as the Swiss Cheese Plant, is an iconic and highly sought-after tropical houseplant. It features large, glossy, heart-shaped leaves with distinctive splits and holes, giving it a unique and exotic appearance. Monstera deliciosa is not only visually striking but also relatively easy to care for, making it a favorite among indoor plant enthusiasts.
Plant Care Needs
• ☀: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight. Can tolerate low light conditions but may exhibit slower growth. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
• 💦: Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly, then allow excess water to drain away. Water less frequently in winter.
• 🪨: Well-draining potting mix is essential. Use a mixture of peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark for optimal drainage. We recommend our Luxuriously Moist soil blend, or a combination of The Mix & cHuNkY mOnKeY!
• 🌡️: Prefers warm temperatures between 65°F to 85°F (18°C to 29°C). Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations.
• ☁: Thrives in high humidity environments. Mist the leaves regularly or use a humidifier to maintain humidity levels, especially in dry indoor environments.
• ✂: Easily propagated from stem cuttings. Take a cutting with at least one node and place it in water or moist potting mix until roots develop.
• ⚖: Moderate maintenance. Suitable for indoor gardeners with some experience.
• 💭:
- Provide support for the plant to climb, such as a moss pole or trellis, as Monstera deliciosa is a natural climber.
- Clean the leaves periodically with a damp cloth to remove dust and maintain their glossy appearance.
- Fertilize regularly during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce fertilization in winter.
- Monstera deliciosa is toxic if ingested, so keep it out of reach of pets and children.
- Prune dead or yellowing leaves regularly to encourage new growth and maintain the plant’s appearance.
